JAN 66 (2016)

Jan 66 is a digital image-poem that explores digital obsolescence through cycles of data conversion. An image taken from the artist’s past is converted into Base64 data using an image encoder. That data is then edited, with select data replaced by a poem that describes the artist’s relationship to the image. This newly edited data-poem is re-encoded back into an image. The poem, now encoded in the Base64 data, displaces colour, pixel placement and resolution, as well as erasing the very image it describes. The work explores the fragile state of memory and information.
